Who I am and what I can offer

I am a trainee psychotherapist, and have currently completed over three years of training in counselling and psychotherapy and over 300 clinical hours offering therapy to clients in placement settings.  I receive regular clinical supervision and am a Trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).  I am committed to working in a safe and ethical way and have been signed off to practice by my training institution and supervisor.

I am offering a low-cost service, providing therapy at a considerably lower cost than the going rate, to reflect that I am still undertaking training towards a full qualification in psychotherapy, and also because I feel committed to increasing access to therapy.

My training is person-centred and I have a strong belief that each person is unique and has an individual response to life’s challenges. I believe that each client knows what they are experiencing better than anyone else can, and that by coming to accept and understand themselves better, a client can find their own best way forward through whatever problems they are facing.  I work empathically and non-oppressively with my clients to help facilitate this process.

Is it safe to work with a trainee therapist?

As a trainee therapist, I am required to attend a high ratio of supervision sessions per client hour, and am also required to receive regular therapy myself.  This means that I am consistently checking my own work, practice and state of mind to ensure that I am the best therapist I can be.

I am also consistently required to review research, refresh my theoretical knowledge, and develop my practice.

For these reasons, trainee therapists are often considered to be some of the safest practitioners to work with.  Nonetheless, I am always happy to discuss any worries or questions you may have, and I feel strongly that you should always look to choose the best therapist for you.
